Sunday proved to be another fantastic day for our club athletes competing for Slí Cualann at the Leinster Juniors. Following on from the previous day’s great results, brother & sister Cillian & Richael Browne went for gold today ,with Cillian winning the Junior 3K & Richael winning the 800m. Gold too for Amaris Borel in the 60m Hurdles, and Amaris also had a Season's Best in the 400m. Gold again for Ara Freeman in the 60m with a new Leinster Championship Best Performance and Ara also had a fourth place finish in the 200m. Silver medals for Susie McParland in her first track 3K and for Conor Dempsey in the 400m, a Bronze medal for Rosa Kirwan in the High Jump and another new 800m PB for Katy Conroy! What a top weekend's competition it was!
XC LEAGUE ROUND 4
This coming Friday 27th Feb. in Roundwood GAA centre. Registration 6.30pm. First race 7 pm. This one is uneven Ages U/ 7, 9, 11, 13.& 15, but athletes can move up one age group. Entry form is on our website now and entries close on Thurs 26th Feb at 6pm. Athletes must be registered to compete. Certs to all finishers. Medals are awarded at the end of the League to athletes who accumulate sufficient points by attending regularly.
Please note that there will be no 6-7pm training on this Friday 27th , as coaches will be at the XC. The 7-8.30pm training will go ahead for those who are not running in the league!
LEINSTER INDOORS DAYS 3&4
Days 3&4 of the Indoors are Sat/Sun 7th/8th March. Entries are all gone in and athletes are training hard for their specific events. While we are trying to give as much time as possible to all events, we may not be able to cover every event each night and so athletes need to make a big effort to attend all sessions to ensure they get practise at their chosen events.
LEINSTER DEVELOPMENT SQUAD
Day 4 of the Leinster Development Squad takes place from 11am – 1pm on this coming Sat. Feb 28th, in Morton Stadium, Santry. As always ,each day and is open to all athletes aged 12 years +. The squad will cost €5 per athlete each day. Please check-in at the stand in Morton Stadium from 10.30am. Events covered this weel will be Hurdles, Middle Distance, Javelin and High Jump. This is a great opportunity for some extra coaching on your event!
Time again for our club AGM, which will be held in Shoreline Sports Park on Thurs 12th March at 8pm. This is open to all members and/or parents of juvenile members and is your opportunity to come along and find out how our club is run and what goes on in the background to keep it all running smoothly. It is also an opportunity to make suggestions that you think might improve things, or maybe even come on board and lend a hand on the club committee or one of our sub-commitees. Motions for the AGM should be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org by Fri 6th March to allow time to send these out.
Following on from our success at the Indoor Relays, GAC intends to work on developing our relay squads for future events and so we will have specific relay training sessions for all club teams on the 1st Friday of each month. Athletes who wish to be considered for future teams need to fill out the form on the website declaring their interest and of course will need to attend the training sessions regularly.

While our aim is to promote athletics and foster a love of the sport in all our members, we would like to remind you all that Greystones AC is first and foremost a competative club and so athletes are expected to attend training regularly and take part in the various competitions that the club competes in during the year.
Athletes in Groups 1 & 2 agreed to attend a minimum of two sessions each week before moving to these groups and we expect this to be adhered to. This is necessary to enable them to keep up with the training level and stay with their group. Training sessions take place on Tues/Wed/Fri from 7-8.30pm. While we hope you can do all three, if only doing two nights, it is better to do Tues/Fri or Wed/Fri if at all possible, rather than two nights together with 5 off. We also have an organised Sunday morning run at 9.30am, which is a very important part of the training week. If you cannot make this, you will need to do the run yourself later in the day. So far this season the attendance on Fri nights & Sunday mornings is very poor and we really need to see a huge improvement from here out.
In Sept.’14 we created a Fit4Youth training group for members who don’t want to compete or train at competition level, but who do want to stay fit and remain/become members of the club.This group trains at the 7-8.30pm sessions and have been working hard at maintaining/improving their fitness levels and core strength over the past number of months. They will have opportunities to try field events over the next few months and always have the option to move to one of the competative groups if they decide they want to compete at any discipline. This group is ideal for those who just want to get/stay fit or for those who are just starting athletics, as it works at a less intense level than the competition groups.
The club shop will be open on Tues 3rd March from 7-8pm to facilitate those who need singlets etc.for the Leinster Championships. We now have new girls red shorts in stock in all sizes and also some ¾ length & full length red leggings. We also have a good number of secondhand spikes available as well as rain jackets, lightweight showerproof trousers and club hoodies & T shirts. We also have some black Nike tracksuit bottoms reduced to just €10.
Once again we must remind you all that we train in all weathers, hail, rain or snow. Please ensure that you/your child always brings warm clothing and a waterproof jacket to training, as we still have many who don’t bring suficient clothing. While we may very occasionally have access to indoor facilities, we are generally outdoors regardless of the weather, so come prepared for this! On wet nights, gear bags with your change of clothes can be left in the changing rooms at the sports centre. In the very unlikely event that we should ever have to cancel training or an event at short notice, a webtext msg. will be sent to all members/parents!
