Leinster Results and Club Note

Greystones AC

Leinster Cross Country kicked off last Sunday with the even ages and novice event, in Adamstown Co. Wexford. Flu devastated most of our teams, but the athletes who made it put in great performances. There were big fields in all the races with up to 150 athletes taking part in some.

The U12 girls were the first up and they all ran really well with Rosa Kirwan finishing 20th, Alison Dawson Whelan 46th, Sadhbh Redford 65th , Lisa Dallaghan 68th, Rebecca Murphy 71st, Susie McParland 112th, Aoife McDonell 119th.

Only 5 of the boys made it to the start line and all 5 ran extremely well to take the team bronze medals and qualify for the national finals. Jamie Fallon finished 17th, with Scott Howard close behind in 20th and Cian Baldwin putting in a great finish in 33rd, Conor Dempsey 64th and Luke Donoghue 72nd. Our only U14 was Samuel Kerr who finished 52nd.

In the U16 girls, Claire Fox had a great race to finish in 5th place with Aisling McCabe 26th, Amy Howard 32nd and Hayley Fallon 57th. The girls were part of the County team who finished 4th and qualified for the All Ireland event in Kilbeggan on November 22nd. Flu left us short on members for our U18 team but the 3 girls who made it ran a great race, with Niamh Kearney finishing a comfortable 2nd place, Aisling McGee 10th and Laura Boylan 21st. All 3 girls will run in the All Ireland event with Niamh and Aisling representing Leinster as well as Wicklow and Greystones.  In the Novice Men’s race, Ryan Montgomery ran a strong race to finish 4th and lead the team home to club gold and county silver.

Once again well done to all the athletes who took part and thanks to the parents and coaches for all their help and support.
