Greystones AC News

It was a great start to the new year for our junior athletes, as they started their indoor season in Nenagh, on Saturday. We had 3 girls in the 800m and Ellie Hartnett had a great race to finish 2nd with Niamh Kearney 4th and Aisling McGee 5th. Caoimhe Basquille high jumped her way to a bronze medal and finished 7th in the 60mH where Laura Boylan just missed out on a bronze by 100th of a second. In the 60m Isabel Malley finished 9th in the girls race, while Patrick Costello, just back from illness, finished 10th in the boys, and Ferdia Kenny took the bronze medal in the 200m. Sunday saw Caoimhe back in Nenagh, this time in a Senior competition, where once again she produced some fine jumps.

Congratulations to the following athletes who were selected to represent Leinster at the Scottish Indoors in Glasgow on 14th Feb. Caoimhe Basquille, Laura Boylan, Patrick Costello, Claire Fox, Ellie Hartnett, Amy Howard, Niamh Kearney, Ferdia Kenny, Isabel Malley and       Aisling McGee.

Leinster Star Awards

In between competitions, Caoimhe went to Carlow on Sat night to receive the Leinster Senior Star Award for 2009. Ferdia Kenny was also in Carlow to receive the Juvenile boys award. They were supported by family and friends on the night.

We would like to congratulate Caoimhe and Ferdia on their Awards.

Wicklow Star Awards

On this Fri 22nd Jan. our club will be hosting the County Star Awards. This event will be held in the function room of the Horse & Hound in Delgany, which is kindly being donated by the Boylan family. We will need sandwiches and cakes for this, so if you are in a position to help out, please contact Theresa asap on 0868635797.

Once again Greystones has done very well, with Caoimhe Basquille taking the Girls U16-19 award, Niamh Kearney and Patrick Costello taking the Junior awards and Sean Ryder receiving an achievement award for winning the Celtic Games Javelin competition. Greystones AC will also receive the overall award for Track & Field for 2009. Athletes who were members of the junior/U23 team, that won the Leinster’s, will also receive awards on the night. The event begins at 8pm and we hope to see lots of you there supporting the athletes. As we will all be going to the awards, training on Fri will be in the hall, from 6-7pm, for all groups.
