Greystones AC News

Greystones AC

A reminder that the Wicklow Co. Championships are being held here in Greystones, this coming weekend. This is the biggest event of the year for most of our athletes and we sincerely hope that everyone will make a big effort to attend, on both days, if at all possible. Please give your name at training or text to Theresa on 0868635797 before Friday, if you haven’t done so already. As well as the individual events, we need lots of athletes to make up relay teams, so please let us know if you are available. We will try to get the younger athletes events over as early as possible, but it will take some time to get everything done, so be prepared for this. Bring a picnic and make a day of it and hopefully the weather will oblige. Don’t forget the raingear and the sunscreen to cover all eventualities.  On Saturday, athletes up to age 12 need to compete in all events, as it is an award scheme, with points from each event. All receive medals and certs. Older athletes can compete in any or all events in their age group. This applies to everyone on Sunday. Events start at 11am each day, so try to be there by 10.30am for check-in and warm up.

The Reasons to Run Women’s 5K was very successful, despite being poorly supported by club members. Many thanks to the small number who took part in the race and to those who turned up to help out. We couldn’t do it without you. Well done to our juniors who took all three prizes in their category, with Ellie Hartnett finishing 3rd overall to take the junior title, Aisling McGee 2nd and Amy Howard 3rd. Other juniors having a good run were Naoise Murphy Byrne, Ciara Simpson, Laura Boylan, Hayley Fallon, Susie McParland & Richael Browne.

Don’t forget our re-scheduled AGM is this Thurs.6th May at 8 pm, in the Charlesland centre. We will have a brief review of the club at present and how we hope to progress in the coming years.  All ideas and suggestions will be very welcome. If you would like anything added to the agenda, please let us know ASAP. We will also need to elect a new committee. We would appreciate if anyone who is prepared to stay on the committee or come on to it would let us know before the meeting, if possible, however nominations will be taken from the floor. We are also looking for more people to help out at training, so if anyone is available and willing to lend a hand, particularly at the 6-7pm sessions, please let us know. Suitable training will be arranged.
