Greystones AC

Yet another great weekend for Greystones athletes! It was Santry for the Leinster schools this week and Wed. saw Claire Foley take gold in the junior 100m and 200m, Caoimhe Basquille take the silver in the intermediate hurdles and Laura Boylan take bronze in the senior while Eoin Taggart finished 5th in the U16 mile. Sat. started with Ferdia Kenny taking bronze in the long jump and later going on to take 4th in the 200m with a new PB. This was followed by Caoimhe Basquille and Sean Ryder taking silver medals in the high jump and javelin respectively. In the 800m, Ellie Hartnett won gold with Niamh Kearney taking bronze in the senior race, while Amy Howard finished 6th after a great run in the intermediate. Jack Commons also had a good performance in the senior hammer.

Sun. was Leinster relays held here in Greystones and a huge crowd turned out for the event. Greystones entered 20 teams and most made it to the start line. There were fantastic performances all round, with most teams making it to the finals and some very close finishes indeed. Our girls U9 won bronze, with the U12’s in 3rd and 4th, U13’s 1st, U14’s 4th, U16’s 2nd,U17’s 3rd and U19’s 1st and our boys U13 were 1st. All the athletes ran really well and were a credit to their club and their coaches.Well done to all.

This is the last request for entries for next Sat for the Leinster U9/10/11 pairs event and the U12 championships and for the junior/U23 championships on Sunday. These are now very late and I am in big trouble with the Leinster board. They have agreed to take them from me only if I get them in immediately, so if you don't get your name to me tonight (Tuesday) it is definitely too late. Athletes competing on Sat. need to be in Tullamore by 9.30am latest and on Sun by 10.30am.

Athletes from U9-U15 who want to take part in the team competition on June 12th should give their names to their coaches by next Tues latest. This is a great event and is being held here in Greystones, so we should be able to get lots of teams out. Each team has 4 athletes who compete in two events each and all four do the relay.

Athletes from U13 to U19, who intend taking part in their Leinster championships on the 19th/20th June should give their names and chosen events to their coaches by the following week.
