Apologies to all. We must have been looking at the wrong calendar when we wrote the last note, as we got all my dates mixed up. The cross-countries are on Sun 3rd and Sun 10th Oct. The venues have been switched around, so the even ages is now in Roundwood on the 3rd and the uneven ages in Avondale on the 10th. Athletes may move up one age group, so there are races for all athletes on both days. Certs are awarded to all athletes in the U8-U10’s races who complete the course. Races from U11 up are championship events, with medals for the first three finishers and the first three teams. We hope all our athletes will make a big effort to take part and help us to fill teams. Athletes who intend to run need to give their names at training or text Theresa on 0868635797 by next Fri 1st Oct. latest. Please do not turn up on the day without first giving your name. New athletes need to register before these competitions.
Roundwood venue: coming up from Newtown, take the left turn for Wicklow just after the resevoir, or from Roundwood, the right turn for Wicklow, just before the resevoir. The course is about a mile up the road. Athletes need to be there by 10.15am and most will be finished by 12 o’clock..
Thankfully a couple of parents have come forward to help with the 6-7pm groups, but we still need more help, especially on Tuesday’s. We are not asking anyone to commit to training every week. If we could get a number of volunteers we could set up a roster, with each person just helping every other week. If anyone is available to help please contact Theresa on 0868635797 asap.
We held registration for our new athletes last Tues and Fri, and a good number signed up. If you have not returned your form, please bring it to training in an envelope with a copy of your birth/baptisimal cert and €15 to cover registration and insurance till the end of Dec. If you have not yet received a form, please ask at training. We need to get these sorted asap so that all our athletes are properly covered. Athletes have now been moved into appropriate groups. If you are not sure whih group you’re in, just check with the coaches.
We advertised our club shop for the last Fri of the month, where club gear can be purchased or orders placed for hoodies, rainwear, singlets etc. Once again we had the date wrong and thought the last Fri was this week. The shop will be open this Fri 1st Oct in the room behind the reception area at the track.
Sunday Morning Runs
The Sunday morning runs have been poorly attended so far this year with only a small number of dedicated athletes turning up to run. For those not familiar with this, each Sun. that we are not competing we meet at 10am, in different places and go for a long, easy run together. The Sun. long run is an integral part of an athletes training particularly at this time of year and is open to all athletes in groups 1&2, with athletes running varying distances appropriate to their age. Adult runners/joggers are welcome to join us.
Many of you will be familiar with the Fit4Life programme for adults which has been running on the track for the past few years and indeed some of you have become members of the club through this. We are looking into forging a stronger link between the two and also to adding road running sessions on Tues. and Fri evenings at the same time as the juvenile training. This would allow parents to drop off their children and do some training themselves at the same time. As with the Fit4Life it will be set up to cater for different levels and abilities, but these additional sessions will only be open to registered club members. We are interested in getting feedback on this before we proceed, so please let us know if you are interested in taking part. The Fit4Life sessions will continue at their usual times and are open to all.
