Congratulations to all the athletes who received awards last Fri. evening. There were a great number present on the night and a lot of awards given out across all the training groups. It was nice to see so many getting their 5yr & 10yr membership awards and we will be adding a 15yr award to these next year. With a big effort all round, there could be even more awards to give out next year.

Special congratulations go to Niamh Kearney who won Wicklow’s National Juvenile award for 2011. This is a great achievement for Niamh, who also won this award in 2010.  

Well done to the girls who competed at the weekend. Laura Boylan was in action in Nenagh where she won a silver medal in the 60mH in a new PB. A great start to the season! At the Junior XC in Bray, it was a 1,2,3 for Greystones when Claire Fox took gold, Amy Howard silver and Aisling McGee bronze, also giving the girls team gold and the Junior cup. Great work girls!

REGISTRATION/INSURANCE FEES

Fees are now overdue for 2011. Many thanks to all who have paid them already. Despite having people available to take registrations all last week, there are still a large number who haven’t paid them. We will make ourselves available again on Tues & Wed this week only, to facilitate these athletes. After this we will assume that anyone who hasn’t paid their fees has opted to leave the club, as un-registered athletes cannot be allowed to attend training or other club events and coaches are unable to accept fees at training. We have a continually growing waiting list for places in the club and athletes who give up their place will have to go on the list, if they wish to return to the club.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Don’t forget that we are having a Sportshall competition in the Shoreline hall from 6-9pm this Friday.This is for all athletes up to U15 (2011 ages). Older athletes will be needed to help run the events. Please be on time as we will not be able to include those who turn up late, if teams are already sorted. As it is a team competition, you must be able to stay for the whole event, otherwise your team can't continue to take part and this is very upsetting for everyone. This is a great fun event that always proves very enjoyable. Teams will be picked randomly, according to the numbers in each age group and athletes from different clubs will be on mixed teams. There will be medals for the first 3 teams in each age group.

LeinsterJuvenile Indoors are on in Nenagh on Sat/Sun 12^th/13^th Feb. Entries are due in next week, so all athletes who wish to compete should give their entries to their coaches at training by next Tues latest. Competition is for U12-U19’s and the full programme can be found on www.Athleticsleinster.org and www.greystonesac.com       Absolutely no late entries will be accepted.

Anyone wishing to represent Greystones AC & Co.Wicklow at the Nat”B” XC in Santry on Sun 6^th Feb needs to contact Theresa immediately. We have a great chance at getting individual, club & county team medals here if we can get the athletes out. 

CLUB GEAR is only available from the club shop, once a month. This is open in the room behind the reception area at the track. The next shop night will be Tues. 1^st Feb. Orders will be taken for hoodies, if sizes are not in stock.

Fit4Life RACE

Greystones AC is hosting the 1^st of the Fit4Life races on Wed night this week. Check-in is at 7pm and race starts at 7.30pm. This is a 2 mile race, which is a very managable distance and is open to all. There are catagories for Jun/Sen/O35/40/45/50, with prizes for the 1^st 3 in each category. As hosts we need to provide stewards, refreshments etc. and so we would greatly appreciate it if anyone who is not running would come along and give a hand on the night. It will all be over in less than an hour and will be followed by an open meeeting of the senior club Slí Cualann, where members can put forward ideas for the future of the clu

Once again we would ask that you sign up to the web-site and get your newsletter sent to you directly, as we will not be issuing a paper version in future, unless someone specifically asks for it. There are now 8 months of a fixtures calendar available on the site This will give athletes a chance to plan their holidays etc. around competition, where possible. Keep checking as we will add any additional events as they become available.
