Club Newsletter

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS NEWSLETTER AS IT CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ATHLETES AND PARENTS.

TRAINING
We are back in action for two weeks now and are settling into our new training groups. These first weeks back can be hard work, mostly involving running, as we work  at getting fitness levels up. Once we see an improvement in fitness, we will mix the sessions up more, to include jumping, throwing, obstacle races etc.for the younger athletes. Regular attendance at training will help you get fit quickly and will make it easier for you to keep up with your group. All athletes need to wear proper runners and tracksuit , shorts or leggings please. Children will not be allowed to train in jeans, sandles or street shoes. Please bring a light rainjacket to all training sessions, as we do not have indoor facilities if it rains!
It is the responsibility of parents to make sure children are collected on time after training sessions. Coaches are busy checking in the incoming groups and are unable to supervise collections as well. We have tried unsuccessfully to get a roster going to cover this, so if people are willing to help out please let us know.
Parents and brothers/sisters are not allowed inside the track during training sessions, but are welcome to watch from outside the fence. Please note that the Outdoor Gym Equipment is for age 14 up only and children should not be allowed to play on this! (Health & Safety)
ALL athletes who have not returned to training over the past two weeks or have not contacted us as requested, have now been removed from our check-in sheets. Athletes who are not on the lists can not be admitted to the track.
Athletes in groups 1 & 2 are required  to attend a minium of two sessions per week to enable them to keep up with the training level. Training sessions takes place on Tues/Wed/Fri from 7-8.30pm. While we hope you can do all three, if only doing two nights, it is better to do Tues/Fri or Wed/Fri if at all possible, rather than two nights together with 5 off. We also have an organised Sunday morning run at 10am, which is a very important part of the training week. If you cannot make this, you will need to do the run yourself later in the day. So far this season the attendance on Sunday mornings is very poor indeed, but we expect to see a huge improvement from here out.
“If we don’t put the miles in, we’re going nowhere!”
Group 1 athletes have been asked to complete and return a survey form asap. This will help us to plan your training programme around your other commitments (as much as we possibly can), allowing you and your coaches get the most from your training, with sufficient recovery time to help improve your performance.     If you didn’t get one yet, these forms are available from Theresa at training.

CONGRATULATIONS
Well done to club athletes Amaris Borel, Padraig Leenon, Eoin Taggart, Stephen Rice, Conor Dempsey and Lorcan Lalor, who have been selected for the Leinster Performance Squad for 2013/14 This squad brings together small groups of talented athletes  from across Leinster and offers specialised sessions in the athletes chosen event/s that compliment the athletes regular training. We are delighted to have 6 athletes on the squad.

HELP NEEDED
A number of our coaches/helpers are no longer available to us, due to changes in their family/work circumstances and so we are urgently seeking help, in particular at our 6-7pm training sessions. Numbers in all training groups remain large and we require two coaches, or a coach and a helper with each group, particularly the younger groups from 6-7pm. If you can spare an hour a week, every second week, or even once a month, and are prepared to lend a hand, as a coach or a helper, please call Theresa (0868635797) right away. Nobody will be thrown in over their heads and all help will be greatly appreciated. If you are unsure or have any questions about this, please call and ask …..….. the call is not a commitment! If we fail to get more help, we will be forced to make radical changes to the numbers that we facilitate. Remember the welfare of the children is paramount and your attendance as a helper provides the opportunity for safe participation of the athletes.       We are also looking for people who can help with the check-in. This only requires about 20 mins at the start of a training session, but is an enormous help to the smooth running of our sessions.

NEW   MEMBERS
We have a lot of prospective members who have been trying out sessions for the past couple of weeks. Those who wish to become club members now need to register with the club. We have arranged  registration nights for Tues. 24th Oct. from 5 – 7.30 pm and Wed. 25th Oct. from 6-7pm, where club volunteers will have forms available and fees can be paid.
