CONGRATULATIONS
Well done to all our GAC athletes who took part in the National XC in Dundalk today. Great running from Eimear Ryan, Ella Shanley, Erin Howard & Emma Quirk in the U12's and from Sarah O'Connor, Sophie Nicholson & Katie Lawless in the U14's. Congratulations to Sarah on her gold medal with the Leinster team. Fantastic running from Ben Jones in the boys U14 with an individual medal for his 6th place finish and a bronze medal with the Leinster team. Congrats also to Susie McParland & Richael Browne on their silver medals with the County team and fine running from Irene Gomez Romro U16 and from Steven Diggin in the U18/Jun event.  Unfortunately we lost a few to illness this weekend, but hopefully most will be up and running again for the uneven ages in Santry on Sun. 7th Dec.

Very well done indeed to the club athletes/coaches who braved the awful weather conditions on Fri last to take part in Round 2 of the XC League in Rathdrum. Fantastic performances from all 15 who attended and had to battle mud, wind & rain for the points. They never gave up! Evan Quirk, Daniel Quirk, Tom McCarthy, Chase Scully, Louis Kelly, Troy Scully, Amber Scully, Georgia Hogan, Eimear Ryan, Rebecca Leahy, Sophie Dallaghan, Sally Shanley, Emma Quirk, Erin Howard, Ella Shanley.

Well done also to athletes & coaches alike who come out night after night and battled the tough training conditions we’ve been having recently.

SPORTSHALL  REPORT  by Helen Dempsey
Great performance by the boys under 13, winning silver in both the 4 x1 lap ( Michael O Shea, Ronan Dempsey, Aodhan Daly, Alan Gordan) and the 4 x 2 lap ( Michael O Shea, Joe Prendergast, Aodhan Daly, Alan Gordan) relays. Joe Prendergast took home two gold in the 6 Lap Individual and the Speed Bounce and a silver in the Vertical Jump. Joe along with Alan Gordon gave a very impressive performance in the 8 Lap Paarlouf bringing home the silver. Alan took the silver in the Shott Putt as well as the bronze in the Vertical Jump. The 2 Lap Individual again saw a strong performance from the Greystones athletes, with Aodhan Daly and Ronan Dempsey taking Silver and Bronze respectively. The pair added to their cache taking Gold and Bronze respectively in the Standing Long Jump.  Aodhan went on to take the bronze in the Standing Triple Jump.

The under 9 girls were not to be outdone by the boys, taking bronze in both the Tunnel Relay (Ava Foley, Tara Casey, Sarah Hayes, Amber Scully) and 1 x Lap Relay (Ailbhe Gordon, Tara Casey, Sarah Hayes, Amber Scully). Ava Foley gave an outstanding performance throughout the day’s events, winning three silver medals in the 3 x Lap Individual, the 2 x Lap Individual and the Speed Bounce. Ailbhe Gordan gave a mighty throw to the Foam Javelin  to bring home the silver and along with Tara Casey took joint gold in the standing long jump. Tara went on to add a silver to her medal count for the 5 strides event.
The Portarlington Sportshall event was superbly organised and was a great day for athletes and parents.  A big thanks to Buntu for putting the athletes through their paces prior to the event.

COMMUNICATION (Please read & note)
Greystones AC uses it’s club Newsletters as our regular means of communication. All new members are asked to sign up for this when they first join, so if you are not getting them please go on to our website www.greystonesac.com and sign up right away. These Newsletters are also available on the front page of the website and on our Facebook page. The club also uses webtext to communicate information, but as we have limited characters for each text this is mainly used for reminders or urgent messages. Please note that while you are occasionally asked to use the webtext no. to sign up for an event, if you have a question that requires a same day reply you should send it by e-mail or text to Theresa on 0868635797. I cannot answer messages on the webtext no. from my mob. and so there may be a long delay before I can reply to you due to work/coaching  commitments. Likewise, if you send messages via our FB page there may be a long delay in getting a reply, as this is mainly used for information purposes and is not constantly monitored.

TRAINING
We train in all weathers, hail, rain or snow. In the very unlikely event that we should ever have to cancel training or an event at short notice, a webtext msg. will be sent to all members/parents! Please ensure that you/your child always brings warm clothing and a waterproof jacket to training. While we may very occasionally have access to indoor facilities, we are generally outdoors regardless of the weather, so come prepared for this! On wet nights, gear bags with your change of clothes can be left in the changing rooms at the sports centre.

CANDLELIGHT REMEMBRANCE RUN -------------- EVERYONE WELCOME!
A reminder that we are holding our Candlelight Remembrance Run/Walk on Sun. 30th Nov. from 4.30pm. This year we are holding the event at Shoreline Sports Park , Charlesland. Starting at the front gates, our route will take us up the back road to the soccer pitch, around the pitch, down the winding hill behind reception, out through the side gate and across the carpark to the track gate, down the hill and around the roadway behind the track bringing us back out to the carpark beside Zoom, approx 1500m in all. The route will be candlelit all the way and hopefully will be as magical an experience as last year’s was. We will have refreshments afterwards in the Shoreline building. Once again there will be a bucket available for donations to Aware

We need jars for the candles, so if you have a jar or two lying around at home, could you please bring them to training this week. Jam/coffee jars or anything of that size will be greatly appreciated. We would also appreciate help from anyone who is free to lend a hand on Sunday!
Please note that if Sunday is wet we will not be able to go ahead, as the candles will go out!

ATHLETE ASSESSMENT DAY
We held a very successful Talent ID day for our juvenile  athletes on Sat. 15th Nov. We had over 60 athletes in attendance and all were put through a series of  tests for jumps, throws, sprints, distance and had their height, peak flow etc. measured. Th results are an indication of potential at various events and give the athletes a base line to work from. We intend to follow up from this with event specific workshops which will help the athletes to take up, or progress at, their chosen events.

Members of the Slí Cualann development squad have a similar event on Sat 28th Nov from 12-2pm in the Shoreline hall, with lunch afterwards.  Squad T-shirts have arrived and will be given out on the day!

CLUB SHOP
The club shop will be open on Tues 9th Dec. from 7-8pm, just in case Santa needs any club gear this year! We have singlets, shorts, t-shirts, hoodies, rainjackets and tracksuit bottoms. We have new girls shorts on order and we will also have new red leggings and sprint shorts available. Leggings and sprint shorts (Sm, Med, Lg only) can be viewed and ordered at training this week.
