CONGRATULATIONS
Well done to all the GAC athletes who took part in the recent County Championships Great performances from our athletes and lots & lots of medals won. There are far too many to list
here.......
Most results are now on our website. Many thanks to all who helped out during the 3 days. The effort & commitment from some of our coaches was far & above anything we could have asked
for. We cannot thank them enough!
UPCOMING COMPETITIONS
The Leinster Relays and Juniors are being held in Greystones on this coming Sat. 23rd May. Best of luck to all our teams and to all our Junior athletes also. Uneven age teams are billed to start
at 11.30 and even ages at 3pm. Please arrive an hour beforehand as it will be very busy and also to allow for events running ahead of schedule. Relay Teams are now posted on the sidebar! Please
let us know asap if you cannot attend as we don’t want disappointed children, arriving to discover they no longer have a team. Athletes need to wear club colours please, ie club singlet or
T-shirt with red, white or black short only. (no pinks, blues, yellows etc. please) We are suppose to wear club gear only, for all of these events! Juniors athletes (U17-20) must wear Slí Cualann
gear for this event!
As GAC is the host club, help will be needed to set up on Sat., to monitor events during the day and to clean up afterwards. Two coaches have to act as officials on the day and others willl be
needed to look after teams, so if anyone else is free to help it would be greatly appreciated.
LEINSTER U9,U10,U11 Pairs Competition & U12-U13 Championships will be held in Tullamore on Sat. 6th June. Entries will need to be in by Tues 26th May. latest.
LEINSTER Combind events for U14 + will be held on Sat 13th June (no venue yet) and entries for these close on Tues 2nd June.
LEINSTER U14-19 championships will be held in Tullamore on Sat & Sun 20th/21st June. Entries close on Tues 9th June.
Forms will be on our website shortly for all of these events. Please ensure you enter in the correct competitions, as there are absolutely no late entries accepted by Leinster!
CARPET PIECES WANTED
Due to all the recent rain, the ground around the track is very wet & muddy. The track has being cleaned this week and is looking very well. In an effort to keep it this way, if anyone has
reasonable large sized pieces of carpet they don’t need we would be grateful for these, as they could be put down around the gates and may help to keep some of the mud off the track.
WEBTEXT MESSAGES
Information texts are sent out fairly regularly by the club. It is fine to reply to this number if you are just confirming something. However, if you have a question that requires an answer that
day, please text Theresa directly on 0868635797, as a lot of the time I am not in a position to answer webtext replies. This msg. has been sent out on several previous occasions!
TESCO COLLECTION
Before training on Tues. evening a number of our coaches & athletes went along to Tesco where they were presented with a cheque for €325 for the club, from the Tesco Charity Fundraiser. We
are absolutely delighted to receive this cheque which will go towards extra equipment for the athletes. Many thanks to Emma O’Brien for arranging to have us included as one of the charity groups
and for collecting the cheque.
AWARDS/REGISTRATION CARDS
We are still looking for a couple of volunteers to help hand out the registration cards and the awards that weren’t collected. If anyone is available to lend a hand with this we will organise to
make them available at training on a given Tues. Registration cards are addressed to the parents, so we cannot give them to the athletes. Athletes are now being issued with Life
Registration cards and won’t be getting replacements every year. This is the number that will be used for all your future entries. Not all cards have arrived yet.
CLUB SHOP
We try to open our shop once each month and just before competitions. Our next club shop opening will be on Tues. next 26th May from 7-8pm. If you need singlet, shorts or any other
club gear, please try to come along on Tues.26th. As we are all volunteers and many are covering more than one job, unfortunately we cannot manage to open the shop outside of these times.
HELP STILL NEEDED URGENTLY
We still need help at the 6-7pm training sessions. The total number of children attending at this time is 100 and we have waiting lists on all 4 groups. Only two of the present coaches have
children in these groups and we are appealing to parents of these children to come on board and help with the training, otherwise we will not be able to continue with all of the groups. We really
do not want to have to suspend groups, but will not be left with any other option if we don’t get some help soon. If any adults are available to help out, it would be greatly appreciated. We
promise not to throw you in at the deep end and we will get you on to a coaching course asap. If you can help out once a week, or alternate with another parent every other week, please let us
know.
Help is also urgently needed to cover check-in at 6pm & 7.30pm please. We are down to a small number of parents who are trying to cover all the sessions, or back to coaches trying to do this
which delays the training, resulting in us being late finishing. This only takes about 15-20 mins max. but is a huge help to the smooth running of our training sessions.
