Xmas Newsletter

Our beautiful Club Calendar is still available, so if you are in need of a lovely gift for someone this Xmas, just want a souvenir of another great year for GAC or a reminder of what a great club you are all part of, you can contact Helen Dempsey, Fiona Ryan, Christina Browne or Theresa Kinane or pick one up at Shoreline Sports Park! Remember this is a fundraiser and all money raised will go to help our club and help keep our fees low! Club pens also available!

Well done to all the GAC athletes who competed in the National XC and represented us so well. Congratulations to Richael Browne on her Silver medal with the County team and to our U15 girls team Sarah O'Connor, Abbie Tyrrell, Sophie Nicholson, Megan O'Brien on their 5th place finish. Great finish places from Ben Jones & Joe Prendergast, and great running also from Troy Scully, Eimear Ryan & Enya Conroy.

Well done also to all the athletes who took part in the Inter-County (Kildare, Laois, Meath, Wicklow) Indoor Competition in Athlone. Wicklow were well short of having a full team, with mostly GAC athletes and a few from Kilcoole & Roundwood. We didn't let that worry us though and had some top class performances throughout the day. Well done to all and hopefully County Wicklow will fill the team for the Outdoor event in the summer.

Well done also to all who competed in R3 of the XC League. Great running from everyone and some terrific wins once again!

  1. The National 'B' XC Championships are being held in ALSAA (beside the Airport) on Sat. 9th Jan at 11.30am. These are open to all athletes who did not qualify for the National XC. U11/13/15/17 age groups (athletes can move up 1 yr) and distances are shorter than the 'A's. Form is now on the website and entries close on Jan 2nd. There are individual, club & County team events.

  2. Masters XC (age 35 & up) will take place in Ashford on Sun. 3rd Jan @ 11am.

  3. National Indoor League R1 is on Sat 16th Jan. Open to all athletes from U17 up. If you are interested in being considered for a team or want to guest at this event, please fill in the form on the website.

Attendance at training during the month of December has generally been poor and, as we had only 5 athletes at Little Athletics 5-6pm last Tues and had very small numbers at the 6-7pm training on both Tues & Fri., we have decided to finish up with all of these groups until Tues 5th Jan. It seems unfair to bring up to ten coaches out at this busy time of year, when so many athletes are not attending. The 7-8.30pm session will go ahead as usual this coming Tues. and this will be the last session before Xmas. Training will officially resume on Tues 5th Jan, but some coaches may make their own arrangements with groups over the holiday period. Do keep running and keep your fitness levels up, as competition starts early in January for many of you.

We hope all our members and friends have a very Happy Christmas!
