NATIONAL JUVENILE INDOORS 2016

Thrills & spills for GAC athletes at the first two days of the National Indoors, where we had top class performances and some great results. On Saturday, Richael Browne took on the U18 1500m right from the gun and stormed to victory with a huge PB of 4.45!

Thrills & spills for GAC athletes at the first two days of the National Indoors, where we had top class performances and some great results. On Saturday, Richael Browne took on the U18 1500m right from the gun and stormed to victory with a huge PB of 4.45! Despite waking with a cold on Sunday she took on the 800m, running a beautifully controlled race to again win her heat. However as the day & the cold progressed, sense had to prevail & sadly she had to withdraw from the final. Huge disappointment for Ara Freeman on Saturday as a break saw her DQ'd from her favoured 60m, but what a comeback on Sunday when she ran a new PB of 24.82 to take silver in the 200m. A terrific bronze for Louis Lalor in the U17 60m hurdles on Sunday also. Another good weekend for Troy Scully who ran a big PB of 4.32 to qualify for the U17 1500m on Saturday, followed by a gutsy run in the final to finish 12th overall. A big PB also for Rachel Casey in the U17 1500m walk where she finished 7th in 8.48. Disappointment for Sarah O'Connor, who was tripped up & crashed to the ground in the first lap of the U16 1500m, but she showed great guts & determination and soon got herself back into contention. However the fall, the battered knees & the fight back took it's toll and Sarah finished in 11th place. Alana Ryan mainly used her indoor season this year to try out the 400m, but still qualified for both the 60m & 200m finals this weekend finishing in 5th place. An early stumble saw Josh Pyper have to fight hard for his place in the 60m final where he later finish in 5th place. Jack McGlone U13, finished 6th in his 60m heat in his first ever National event.  In the field events, Aodhan Daly finished 4th in the Long Jump & 13th in the High Jump U15, Sophie Nicholson finished 8th in the U16 Long Jump & James Nicholson 8th in the U14 Long Jump, with Noah Daly 13th in the U17 Long Jump. Well done to all & best of luck to our relay teams next Saturday and to our Masters on Sunday!
